Job Purpose:

The Project Engineer has responsibility for the engineering of all projects from conceptual design and budgeting through implementation of contracts. A Project Engineer will work with the contract execution and sales team to ensure client satisfaction at all times.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support and embrace the AHS vision, mission, and values.
  • Present a professional image to customers and vendors.
  • Visit job sites with an AHS customer facings salesperson during the proposal phase to ensure the proposed layouts fit into and around all obstructions within the existing and/or new facility.
  • Fully understand the client’s expectations and be responsible for inventorying all existing equipment, including compressors, air drops, 480- & 110-volt power, etc.
  • Follow AHS Vendor Selection Process for all projects.
  • Complete all layouts of system including but not limited to proposal layouts, approval layouts, installation layouts, etc.
  • Develop the sequence of operation and assist sales in preparing the proposal and/or statement of work document.
  • Troubleshoot, either in person or on the phone, any issues that arise.
  • Work with the Project Manager on larger projects by maintaining the project timeline, establishing deliverables and sub-contractor agreements, and communicating with the customer as well as AHS’s business partners.
  • Gather all necessary field data required for final design of the system. Issue all purchase orders to subcontractors and equipment manufacturers.
  • Develop comprehensive BOM encompassing all contract costs.
  • Work with the PM, sometimes solo, to develop comprehensive project schedules.
  • Prepare installation documentation to be given to subcontractors prior to job installation.
  • Generate pricing and layouts for change orders/work authorizations.
  • Prepare spare parts list and "as-built” documentation.
  • Prepare, submit and procure all applicable permits or work with the PM/Site Manager on permitting.
  • Create 3D drawings/renderings for current proposals and for future opportunities.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent is preferred.
  • 3+ Years’ Experience in the Material Handling Industry or equivalent is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Conveyor, Racking, Storage Systems and Advancing Technologies (Robotics, Goods to Person Systems etc.)
  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude necessary.
  • Ability to effectively use hand and power tools.
  • Excellent problem solving, judgment making, and organizational skills.
  • Well-developed verbal / interpersonal skills with strong organizational, problem solving and time management skills.
  • Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously and comfortably in a fast pace environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project) and AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of installation and maintenance of systems preferred.
  • Industry knowledge related to supply chain, logistics, material handling systems, and software such as WMS, WES, WCS, CCS, ERP, etc. is preferred.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision with a high degree of responsibility.

Working Conditions:

  • Travel up to 10% or as needed.
  • Some weekend/night work required as needed.
  • Working in office, warehouse, and manufacturing facilities.
  • Working in a stationary position for an extended period.
  • Moving or traversing for an extended period.
  • Occasional ascending and descending scaffolding and/or mezzanines.
  • Operating computers for an extended period.
  • Possible exposure to noise levels exceeding recommended DBA levels.
  • Occasional movement and positioning of objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
